Leopold A. (Lee) Whiteman, Jr., PMP, is an experienced project leader and senior manufacturing engineer. He has successfully held a variety of technical and project management responsibilities in both engineering and electronics manufacturing environments. Mr. Whiteman's career spans more than 30 years, primarily supporting aerospace electronics and project management functions. He has published papers in various technical journals and forums.

Mr. Whiteman is a senior member of the engineering staff with L-3 Communications. He writes for VentureOutsource.com on management matters related to the technical and environmental aspects of the electronics sector. Prior to L-3 Communications, Lee worked at the American Competitiveness Institute (ACI).

At ACI, Mr. Lee was an active member of the Joint Group of Pollution Prevention / Joint Council of Aging Aircraft (JG-PP / JCAA) Lead Free Program, the Aerospace Industries Association Lead-Free Electronics Assembly Program (AIA LEAP), and the Lead Free Components Focus Group. The Lead Free Components Focus Group and the JG-PP / JCAA Lead Free Program were awarded Soldetec’s Lead Free Soldering Award in 2002 and 2005, respectively.

Mr. Whiteman was a contributing member to NASA’s Technical Workmanship Committee, where the IPC awarded him a Distinguished Committee Service Award for contributions to the IPC J-STD-001CS Space Electronics Hardware Addendum.

Prior to joining ACI, Mr. Whiteman was employed at Lockheed Martin, Martin Marietta, and General Electric. He received two General Manager’s Service Awards for outstanding professional performance, and was nominated for the Gerald L. Phillippe Award for community service.

Mr. Whiteman earned his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from State University of New York at Stony Brook. He obtained his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute and completed Villanova University’s 6 Sigma / Green Belt Program.
