The skills I often see lacking in the EMS industry today
Most of the EMS company is thinking traditional - per component placement price and BOM price. This can not be sustainable model. EMS company should have exposure and relation with technology companies - from the day one to build high quality, 0% infield failure rate devices. - This can happen only with constant technology exposures from the partners.
What I think about low-cost manufacturing
Los-cost manufacturing is ART. Its not cost cutting or cutting corners. It is creative business solutions and service. EMS/ODM Business must have ability to meet target price and provide service and solution - which can create long term sustainable win-win model. I have worked on number of projects where we were able to work together with customer and bring cost down to 20 to 30%
