My work experience spans over 20 years in the telecommunications/electronic equipment industry from startup to Fortune 500 firms. Strengths are in areas such as strategy, operations, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, PP&C, organizational development and especially with outsourcing to EMS companies so that we could focus on product development, sales and marketing. Many experiences with customers and industries, such as defense, AT&T , baby Bells, ADC Telecommunications, ABL Canada, state telecom entities, Telecordia, British Telecom, and others.
My thoughts on ...
What I think about Foxconn
Getting too big...
EMS companies I have worked with
Sigmatron International, Flextronics, Solectron (back in the day), IEC, Apsco, Libra Industries, Qualtech Technologies, Malibu Technology, and many more that have come and gone.
The skills I often see lacking in the EMS industry today
It depends on the size. Smaller EMS do not have the IT resources to manage themselves or purchasing power. Larger EMS lack sensitivity.
What I think about some of the emerging EMS markets or regions
Growing larger and more diverse. I have developed a rather lengthy industry report if anyone is interested. EMS will continue movinig to low cost regions as older regions mature, but to a lesser extent as many other issues increase the cost of off-shoring. On-shoring is becoming a bigger trend.
What I think about low-cost manufacturing
That is the primary EMS driver.
My thoughts on what makes a good program manager
Must KNOW the business and their customers. This is a complex business model to deal with.
