Geir is responsible for production and logistics for Atmel's development tools for microcontrollers.
"Atmel is a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of microcontrollers."
Geir has worked with development and production for several companies. Some of these are:
• TeraRecon, Inc. Norway, Site Manager
• Autronica Fire and Security, Development Director
• Siemens, Product Manager (power electronics)
• Siemens Defense System, Senior Logistics Consultant
• Stentofon, “All” from development engineer to Technical Director
My thoughts on ...
EMS companies I have worked with
Autronica Fire and Security, Alphatron, Noca, Solectron, Flextronics, Siemens, Kitron, Escatec......
The skills I often see lacking in the EMS industry today
An observation after the "outsourcing era" and relatively small companies is challenges with optimization of the production process. Either is the product developer not as competent as needed for price optimization, second sourcing of components, production process and test, etc. or the electronics manufacturer is not as competent as needed for input in the development phase.
What I think about low-cost manufacturing
Low-cost manufacturing is for me the lowest price from the product idea to phase out. Hence the lowest production cost at a certain stage in the volume production isn't always the best answer.
