The skills I often see lacking in the EMS industry today
Program managers are often not detail oriented enough. I don't know if this is because they are stretched too thin, or the EMS firms have trouble finding and retaining top talent, but often times it takes longer to get fully documented responses when issues arise.
What I think about low-cost manufacturing
Obviously, low cost manufacturing has its place in the world. Key, however, is maintaining qulaity standards through the entire supply chain -- product and service quality -- to ensure those lower costs can translate into competitive advantages in the market.
My thoughts on what makes a good program manager
Details, details, details. When I ask a question, answer the question completely with whatever explanation and caveats necessary; anticipate any additional questions that may be raised and address those in your initial response. Don't provide a partial answer because it only makes me come back and ask three more questions, often the same ones asked in the the original inquiry.
