September 08, 2007

GITEX, the Middle East region’s largest annual technology conference taking place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre opened today and runs until September 12.

According to event organizers, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), this year’s event will attract more than 130,000 ICT professionals and is sold out.

“We are confident this presentation of GITEX Technology Week, with the new customer-focused initiatives will create even more business value for all participants,” said Helal Saeed Al Marri, DWTC director general.

The event is divided into three sections: GulfComms, GITEX Business Solutions, and Consumer Electronics with more than 3,000 companies participating and software giant Oracle claiming to have the largest presence at the five-day event.

With an international appeal, almost 80 countries are present with India and Taiwan sending two of the largest delegations with 110 companies from Taiwan and 30 companies from India, respectively. Taiwanese companies occupy more than 1,922 square meters of exhibition space – more than any other country.

few other countries sending technology company delegations to the event include Canada; United Kingdom, Bulgaria, and Korea.

Closer to the neighborhood, Egypt and Jordan both have a robust presence with 42 companies from Egypt, the country’s biggest participation in 15 years, and 10 companies from Jordan. Also from the region are companies from Iran; Lebanon, Tunisa, Morocco and Syria.

“The show has the strongest track record of any of the international ITC exhibitions in encouraging new connections between firms from Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas,” added DWTC’s Helal Saeed Al Marri.
