Electronics manufacturing services provider LaBarge, Inc. was awarded a $5.7 million contract from BAE Systems to produce electronic assemblies for the Advanced Gun System (AGS) for the U.S. Navy's new DDG 1000 Zumwalt class of destroyers.
The Navy expects the Zumwalt class of next-generation multi-mission destroyers to serve as the backbone of its future fleet. The DDG 1000 is tailored for land attack and littoral dominance, and will operate as an integral part of joint and combined expeditionary forces. The AGS will provide firepower against a wide range of littoral and inland targets, as well as highly advanced gunfire capabilities for anti-surface warfare.
Production on this contract is expected to begin at LaBarge's Huntsville, Arkansas, facility in February 2008 and continue through October 2008.
